Established in 2025, Modern Humanist Collective hopes to bring a progressive and inclusive approach to Humanism in Scotland. Our founding members are 8 fully trained, qualified and experienced celebrants who are committed to sharing the values of kindness, tolerance and acceptance.

Through MHC we can support causes in which we believe
Provide a supportive community for individuals who identify with Humanist beliefs.
Organise ceremonies, events, and activities that reflect humanist ideals
Advocate for secularism and human rights
Our key values:
Integrity and respect
To live ethically and sustainably
As an organisation to be friendly, accessible and approachable
Commitment to being non-judgmental and empathetic
Being respectful and honouring the wishes and needs of those we are working with
Aims
MHC as an organised group of people shall, throughout Scotland, uphold and promote Humanism as a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasises the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively. We advocate
for a life guided by reason and empathy rather than religious dogma or superstition, and we believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every person, promoting principles of equality, justice, and human rights. We align with The Amsterdam Declaration (appendix 1) and the ongoing work of Humanists International.
Activities
Further to our aims outlined above, MHC will endeavor to model equity in everyday life through cultivating compassion and empathy. As a Humanist collective we aim to foster a culture of understanding, kindness, and compassion in all interactions and relationships. We will encourage environmental awareness by supporting sustainable practices and policies to protect the environment. Individually we commit to our roles in environmental sustainability and will do what we can to observe and protect our planet, and we share these with the wider community as part of our belief body. We are committed to raising awareness and promoting the importance of our Humanist values through the ceremonies we conduct and by using a range of communication including the use of podcasts, blogs and social media, and other platforms as appropriate. As both local and global issues arise, we will use MHC as a basis to promote discussion and engagement, including involvement from parties with relevant subject experience.
